Gustafson, 71, of RD 2, Smethport, died today (Thursday, Nov. 17, 1977) at his residence following a long illness. Born March 23, 1906 in Mount Jewitt, he was a son of Charles and Selma Gustafson. On July 20, 1927 in Farmers Valley he was married to the former Edith Berg, who survives. Mr. Gustafson had attended Jamestown, N.Y. schools and had been employed by Quaker State Oil Refinery of Farmers Valley until his retirement in 1968. Surviving, besides his widow, are three daughters, Mrs. Carl (Dorothy) (sic) Thompson of Tampa, Fla., Mrs. Barkley (Carolyn) Daugherty of Smethport, and Mrs. Lanny (Nancy) Dickinson of Aiken; two sons, Ralph Gustafson of Smethport, and Courtney Gustafson of Fort Louden, Pa.; 12 grandchildren and two great- grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. James (Esther) Green of Jamestown; two brothers, David Gustafson and Frank Gustafson, both of Jamestown; and several nieces and nephews. Friends will be received at the Jay M. Snyder Funeral Home, Smethport, Friday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. where funeral services will be held Saturday (Nov. 19, 1977) at 2:30 p.m. with the Rev. Thompson George, pastor of the Trinity Lutheran Church of Smethport, officiating. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery, Smethport. The family respectfully declines flowers and suggests memorials be made to the Trinity Lutheran Church or to the charity of the donor's choice.
