Thomas, 89, Resident Here For 68 Years, Dies Served as Keating Twp. Road Supervisor For Many Years Lewis R. Thomas, 89, died at 11 o’clock Tuesday morning, March 9, at Fairview hospital, Degolia, where he had been a patient for nine days. Prior to this he had been ill at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A. M. Anderson, where he had made his home for many years. He was born in Alba, Tioga County, Penna., June 30, 1858, the son of Lorenzo and Harriett McIntosh Thomas, but had lived in Smethport and vicinity for the past 68 years. In 1884 he married Minerva Ostrander Knapp, who died March 24, 1932. Mr. Thomas served as supervisor of the Keating Township Road District for many years. He is survived by five daughters and two sons as follows: Mrs. Lewis Reisinger, Erie; Mrs. E. E. Hopper, Atascadero, Calif.; Mrs. A. M. Anderson, Mrs. Olive Schreiber, Smethport; Mrs. Vera Hauber, Erie; Roy O. Thomas and Clair Thomas, both of Smethport. Also surviving are 24 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren. Three sons predeceased Mr. Thomas, they were: Homer Thomas, who died in 1942, Almond Thomas, who died in 1945, and Freddie Thomas who died in infancy. The body was brought to the home of his daughter, Mrs. Anderson, and funeral services will be held at 3 o’clock Friday afternoon at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. The rector, Rev. Rodney F. Cobb, will officiate. Burial will be in the family plot in Rose Hill Cemetery. McKean County Democrat, Volume 72 No. 11, Front Page, Thursday, March 11, 1948, Smethport PA ----------------------------- Lewis Thomas Funeral Services Aged Resident Buried In Rose Hill Cemetery Funeral services were held for Lewis Thomas Friday afternoon, at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church. The rector, the Rev. Rodney F. Cobb, officiated. Interment was in Rose Hill Cemetery with the following acting as pallbearers: Robert Peterson and Frank Hyde and four grandsons of Mr. Thomas: Kenneth Thomas, Donald Thomas, Armand Thomas and William Thomas. Out-of-town people who attended the funeral were Mr. and Mrs. Albert Hauber, Erie; Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Anderson and children, St. Marys, W. Va.; Mrs. Edith Thomas and sons, Armand, Gerry, Dick and Lewis, Lewis Run; Herman Ostrander, Gilford; Floyd, Paul and Ephram Ostrander, Port Allegany; Mr. and Mrs. Charles Freeman, Derrick City; Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Freeman and Marcus Freeman, Bradford; Mr. and Mrs. Nels Anderson and Mr. and Mrs. Henry Anderson, Niagara Falls.
