He served as Prisoner of War at Libby Prison, Bell Island Prison and finally at Salisbury Prison. Adam was born in Pa in 1835 the son of Phillip and Leah Rahauser Rupert. He married Hannah McDowell, dau of Borland McDowell. Adam died in 1865 four miles from home as a result of the Civil War. Company H. after night we advanced to the front comenced throwing up works the Rebbs fired on us and had quite heavy firing for half hour Saturday 18 morning made a charge took the first line of works and were repulsed at the second line Samuel Perv wounded with in one mile of Petersborough made another charge at noon Repulsed Sunday 19 at the same place not much but skirmishing going on some artillery night went in front built works. lay there til the next night Monday 20 not much going on but skirmishing and artilery. were relieved night by the nine corporal marched 2 miles to the left lay til morning Tuesday 21 marched 4 miles to the left flank formed line and build first works in front of the enemy . skirmishing evening. lay behind the works that night. Wednesday 22 morning skirmishing. advanced half mile formed line and were repulsed. drove back to our third line of works made a stand and drove the enemy back part way on picket that night. Thursday 23 morning in the works in the Rebbs picket firing on the left of our line 5 miles from Petersborough On Picket this night the enmy fell back to there position Friday 24 on picket good times very warm and dry. our bregade fell back to rest very heavy comencing on our right Saturday 25 in camp today not knowing how long we will saty here picket firing all the time very warm day night very heavy musketry on the right Sunday 26 at the same place-in camp. Comanding on our right very warm and dry Rec leter from wife a fear of rain evening but no rain on picket tonight Monday 27 warm. on picket all quiet on the left comanding along the sentre relieved at dark came to camp slept all night small show of rain not enough to lay(?) the dirt(?) Thursday 30 put up tent had inspection of arms mustered in for pay. afternoon threatened rain but no rain heavy comandering along the center throughout the night. Friday July 1, 1864 morning pleasant all quiet along the left Comandering along the center warm and dry wrote leter to father in law Saturday July 2, 1864 warm and dry picket firing along the center afternoon nothing of importance wrote leter to mother Sunday 3 some comandering drawd rations and clothing preaching at six in the evening Monday 4 nothing but some comanding along the center Dry Fourth Tuesday 5 warm. nothing going on of importance some comanding Wednesday 6 I on guard at the spring some comanding frunt(?) of Petersborough Thursday 7 Came off guard at 9 m__(?) nothing of importance. inspection at 6 evening. Friday 8 morning nothing of importance. went on picket 4 even. some shelling in the evening. wounded two of our unit Saturday 9 on picket. not much going on some comandering were relieved from picket at 5 oclock evening Sunday 10 fore noon helped to dig well. Afternoon washed shirt, drawers preaching at 4 eve Monday 11 on Camp guard nothing of importance packed up evening take down works moved in the morning before day light marched 2 miles. Halted in open field Tuesday 12 lay there all day and night. great appearence of rain but no rain.
