Belleville, Sept. 1. - At least one Amishman from this valley has made good in military service. Jefferson Peachy, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Sol. Peachy, was called in the draft contingent last July and went to Camp Meade, Md., without protest as a conscientious objector. After being in camp for some time Jeff was put up against the mule corral where he mastered the outlaw of the herd, and when you speak of an outlaw as it relates to an army mule you are talking some. This particular mule has mastered at least a hundred so-called mule wranglers, but Jeff never did much else at home and knew that nature of the brute, so that in less than a week he had the outlaw eating from his hand and following him about like a dog. In consideration of his knowledge of horseflesh he was son after promoted to be chief trainer at the artillery stables and is making his mark as a trainer of all kinds of mounts for the service. The young man s a nephew of the late Hon. Jefferson Peachy, a member of the state legislature from Mifflin county. Altoona Tribune, Monday morning, September 2, 1918, page 9
