He was the husband of the late Margaret V. (Gerlock) Bell before her passing in 2019. Born on Dec. 15, 1933, in Lewistown, he was a son of the late Mary Helen (Laub) and William K. Bell, Sr. After graduating from Lewistown High School, Charlie joined the U.S. Navy and served on the Willis A. Lee from 1956-1957 during the Korean Conflict. One attribute about Charlie was that he was a perfectionist and it showed in his work. He went on to work with his brother, Bill, doing Carpentry and Masonry work for their business, Bell Brother’s Construction. Later, he worked for the Viscose and was an inspector at Ford New Holland before retiring in 1991. During his free time, Charlie enjoyed woodworking, hunting, and baseball. In 1954, while on a hunting trip with John and Albert Dubendorf, the three discovered loot, consisting of pennies, that had been from the 1909 great train robbery in Hawstone. Charlie leaves behind his son, John Bell, of Reedsville; sisters-in-law, Patricia Freed Bell and Joyce Stimely Bell of Lewistown, and brother-in-law, Stephen Gerlock, of New Jersey. In addition to his wife and parents, Charlie is preceded in death by son, Thomas C. Bell; brothers, Robert J. Brady, James Bell, Walter Bell, and William K. “Bill” Bell, Jr., and sisters, Nancy Dubendorf and Erma Bell.
