Hays Burdge, 93, of East Waterford, passed away at 5:48 a.m. on Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at his residence. Born on Dec. 8, 1929, in Lack Twp., Juniata County, he is a son of the late J. Bryan and Ethel (Shearer) Burdge. On Aug. 11, 1953, he was married to his late wife, Dorothy (Goshorn) Burdge, with whom he was blessed to share more than 65 years of marriage before her passing on Jan. 19, 2019. He is survived by his children, Ruth A. Best and her husband, Joseph, of Dry Run, Larry D. Burdge and his wife, Bonnie, of East Waterford; five grandchildren, Gregory Best and his wife, Jackie, Todd Best and his wife, Lori, Amy Shope and her husband, Dan, Levi Burdge and his wife, Heather, Logan Burdge and his companion, Kolie Hoch; six great-grandchildren, Ryan Best, Preston Best, Andrew Best, Ava Shope, Katie Best, and Vira Shope; and many generations of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two siblings, Dorothy Snyder and Donald Burdge. Mr. Burdge was a 1947 graduate of Orbisonia High School and was a member of the Richvale United Methodist Church. Hays was a self-employed dairy farmer for much of his life and was a former employee of Lack Township. After his retirement, he served as a Lack Township Supervisor and enjoyed selling sweet corn and potatoes. He enjoyed hunting deer, attending his grandchildren’s basketball games, and watching them coach basketball. Along with his late wife, he also enjoyed traveling, camping, and attending tractor shows. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 17, 2023, from the Richvale United Methodist Church, 17940 Shade Valley Road, Blairs Mills with Pastor Summer Bair and Pastor Rick Fluke II officiating. Interment will follow at the Shade Valley Cemetery. A viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of the funeral services at 11 a.m. on Monday at the Church. The family will provide all funeral flowers and kindly ask that memorial donations in Mr. Burdge’s memory be made to the Richvale United Methodist Church, 17940 Shade Valley Road, Blairs Mills, PA 17213.
