Joe was born on Jan. 31, 1950, in Belleville, and lived his 73 years in the Big Valley. Joe enjoyed many years dairy farming, taking vacations at the beach, and traveling to spend time with family and friends. Joe enjoyed home cooked meals and desserts. A family favorite was always his Byler sweet corn. He enjoyed playing board games and card games with family and friends. In Joe’s younger years, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. During his time in high school at Belleville Mennonite School, he was a member of the Future Farmers of America (FFA), and he participated in the local 4-H program. Joe also supported farmland conservation efforts. He was preceded in death by: his parents, Jesse Byler and Amanda (Yoder) Byler, an infant brother and sister, former spouse, Sharon (Strauser) Byler, grandson, Jesse Aldrin Byler, and step-granddaughter, Tiffany McKim. Surviving are: his wife, Cheryl (Robinson) Byler, and sisters, Sara Jane Helmuth and husband, Clifford, of Oklahoma, Barb Rogers (husband Larry, deceased), of Belleville, Mary Grace Larson and husband, Duke, of Belleville, Mildred King and husband, Sanford, of Belleville, Jean Byler and partner, Bill Hardenstine, of Florida, and twin sister JoAnn Plank and husband, Robert, of McVeytown, as well as his children: Donald Byler, of McAlevy’s Fort, Ronald Byler and wife, Sheri, of Belleville, and Ryan Byler and wife, Naomi, of Greencastle, PA; his grandchildren: Megan Castle (husband Brian), Sean Byler, Isaac Byler, Shayne Byler, Amanda McKim, Bryson Hicks; and great-grandson, Andrew Castle. His funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 24, 2023, at Locust Grove Mennonite Church with Pastor Ivan Yoder and Robert Plank officiating. Burial will take place following the service at Locust Grove Cemetery.
