He was employed as a laborer at night in No. 2 Iron foundry and was just preparing to leave the department after his night's work. In passing through the shop he was requested to assist in the placing of several of the heavy flasks, weighing about half a ton apiece, when in some manner the chains, by which the work was being done, slipped allowing one of the flasks to fall from its position upon several others. Bumgardner could not escape and was caught under the weight and was terribly crushed about the upper portions of his legs and thigh. His right hip was crushed and torn, the left leg fractured and lacerated and he was injured internally. He was taken to the company's hospital where he died at noon. The surgeons in attendance decided that to amputate the limb would only hasten his death. Deceased was aged about 30 years and is survived by his wife and three children, residing at Locke Mills near Milroy. The body was brought to Felix's undertaking establishment this afternoon to be prepared for burial. A brother of the dead man met with a similar death several years ago while working in the Naginey stone quarries. Lewistown Sentinel, January 18, 1907 Additional Comments: Frank Baumgardner was the husband of Rebecca M. Freed. His three children were Rose Baumgardner, George Sylvester Baumgardner and Mary Jane Baumgardner. Frank's brother Henry Baumgardner died at the Naginey Quarry on December 30, 1903. Frank and Henry are buried in the Salem Cemetery, Siglerville, Mifflin County, Pennsylvania. This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/pafiles/ File size: 2.4 Kb
