Bratton, well known to many Altoona and Harrisburg railroad men, a former section foreman on the Pennsylvania railroad, died at his home at Ryde station at 9:15 Saturday night, of disease incident to old age, superinduced by a heavy cold with which he had suffered for the past two weeks. Deceased was a son of Mr. and Mrs. Samuel Bratton, deceased, and was born in Oliver township, Mifflin county, September 8, 1836. He had resided for many years at Ryde, where he held the position of section foreman for a term of thirty years. In 1889 he retired and went farming, an occupation he followed for many years. He was a member of the Presbyterian church and held the respect and esteem of a large circle of friends in this city as well as in his home community. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Hannah Miller Bratton, and these children: Andrew, of Montana; Mrs. Edward Bardine, of Newton Hamilton; Mrs. O. R. Himes, of Ryde; Mrs. J. D. Banks, of Harrisburg; Miss Anna, at home; Mrs. J. B. Montgomery, of Mapleton; D. S. Bratton, of this city; W. Clyde, at home, and Mrs. George Fornwalt, of Wilkinsburg. The funeral will take place Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, services to be conducted at the house. Interment will follow in the McVeytown cemetery. Altoona Tribune, Monday morning, February 17, 1919
