Lewistown, Pa., July 28 - Mark H. Brown, only son of Mrs. Fannie Brown, of this place, proves to be the first to sacrifice his life for freedom from among the many from Mifflin county now in the field. Mark ran away from his home here in 1916 and no trace of him could be found until a few days ago, when his mother received a communication from Canadian authorities saying that he had lost his life with the Eighty- seventh Overseas Battalion on November 18, 1916. A message was sent the mother at the time but was evidently lost en route. Young Brown enlisted in the Canadian service when not quite 15 years old and made an excellent soldier.
