CRAWFORD AMONG KILLED IN WAR ZONE Private David W. Crawford, a former conductor of the Altoona and Logan Valley company, whose home was Lewistown, has been killed in action, according to word received by his brother, Amos, a Logan Valley employe, residing at Hollidaysburg, from his mother. He was killed just before the termination of the struggle. Crawford was 26 years old and entered the service during the summer at Lewistown in 1917. Word of his death was received by his mother who apprised his brother, who is at present employed as a conductor on the Logan Valley line and resides in this city. David entered the service of the traction company on May 12, 1914, and worked here for over two years. He was quite an athlete and was one of the pitchers of the Logan Valley team in the city league. Some time before entering the army he returned to Lewistown and was working in the steel plant at Burnham at the time he was called for service. He trained at Camp Lee and went to Europe early in the present year, participating in much of the fighting that occurred during the summer. No particulars of the manner in which he met death or of the exact date thereof have been received by his brother here. He was a very popular young man, full of energy and of fine physique and his fate is deeply deplored by his many friends and acquaintances in this city.
