Givler, 80, of 207 Tanbark Drive, Lewistown, died at 6:15 p.m. Friday, August 24, 2007, at his home. He was born April 1, 1927, in Tyrone. Surviving are wife, Marjorie (Himes) Givler; two sons, Mark Givler and his wife, Julie, of Yardley, and Stephen Givler of Lock Haven; two step daughters, Beth Kennedy of Lewistown and Mary Lou Foltz of Reading; two grandchildren, Travis Givler of Yardley and Aaron Kennedy of Leymone; a great-granddaughter, Zoe Kennedy; a sister, Frances Yothers and husband, Drose, of Tyrone, and a number of nieces and nephews. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1944 until 1946. He received his BA and masters from Shippensburg and his Ph.D. from the University of Maryland. Mr. Givler taught at James Buchanan High School for 11 years and retired from the department of English at Shippensburg University in 1991. He coached Little League baseball in Chambersburg for years, when his sons were young. Services will be private at the convenience of the family.
