Harshbarger, of Mattawana, Mifflin County, was accidentally and instantly killed by passenger train No. 33 one mile west of McVeytown station Monday evening, April 10, 1944, at 6:20 o'clock. He was walking along the tracks while on a fishing expedition and started to cross the tracks, not seeing the approaching train. He was aged 76 years, 7 months and 10 days. He was a son of the late Jonas and Pauline (Yerger) Harshbarger and lived with his sister, Miss Mattie C. Harshbarger, Mattawana. Surviving also are four brothers: Moses H., Harry C. and Christian M. Harshbarger, Mattawana, and David L. Harshbarger, Mishawaka, Indiana. Mr. Harshbarger was a shopman in the railroad shops, Altoona, Pa. for many years. He retired a number of years ago and went to live with his sister at Mattawana. The crew of the train which struck him was W. G. Wood, engineer; A. Hines, fireman; Edward Sutton, conductor. Private funeral services will be conducted Thursday morning, 10 o'clock, at the Booth Funeral Home, McVeytown, by Reverend Aaron Mast, Belleville. Burial will be in Mattawana Cemetery, McVeytown.
