Mrs. Leach, whose maiden name was Susan Beidleman, was born in Bucks county, Pa., May 13, 1792. About the beginning of the present century, she removed with her parents to Mifflintown, where in 1810 she married Jacob Toole, of that place. Mr. Toole was a soldier in the war of 1812, participating in the famous naval battle of Lake Erie, where with another comrade he conveyed Commodore Perry from the "Lawrence" to the "Niagara," an act of bravery for which he received a letter of thanks and a silver medal from the government. The latter interesting souvenir is now in the possession of his youngest daughter, Mrs. E. W. Laise, of Duncansville. Mr. Toole died in 1828. In 1833 Mrs. Toole married C. W. Leach, and after his death, which occurred in 1845, she moved to this county, residing until a few years ago in Duncansville. During the latter years of her life she made her home with her children, all of whom were married. The deceased was for many years a consistent member of the Lutheran church, and was a pious and exemplary Christian lady. Ripe in the Master's service she has been garnered to receive her reward. She leaves to mourn their loss five children, one son and four daughters, as follows: James E. Toole, of Northumberland; Mrs. Sarah A. Sills, of Lewistown, with whom she made her home at the time of her death; Mrs. Catherine Fink, of Calvin, Huntingdon county; Mrs. Jane E. Yerger, of this city, and Mrs. Ellen M. Laise, of Duncansville. Altoona Tribune, November 12, 1885
