He enlisted in the winter of 65 in Company A., 52nd Regiment, Ill., and served until the close of the war. He is survived by the following children to his first marriage: William of Urbana, O., Fannie of Lewistown, Pa., J. Austin of Latrobe, O., and James of Nankin, O. In the old church which stood at the edge of hill at Mechanics St. he professed faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and from that day until his death he proved himself to be one of our faithful and devout member. At the time of his death he was a member of the Church Council, a regular attendant at Sabbath School and at the last annual meeting of W. J. & F. M. Society he was made an honorary life member as a token of appreciation of the interest and love for the missionary work in our church. Last Saturday afternoon a goodly number of his friends and relatives and representatives from the orders and members of the church assembled in St. John's Lutheran church to pay their last tribute of respect to a friend and brother. An appropriate sermon was preached from 2nd Timothy by his pastor, Rev. L.A. Bush. His remains were taken to God's Acre on Mechanics Street, there to wait the resurrection of the dead.
