Matthews, of Near Newton Hamilton, Meets Death on Pennsy Yesterday. Edward B. Matthews, aged 37, a night track watchman employed by the Pennsy on the Middle division, was instantly killed at about 5:20 o'clock yesterday morning by a westbound train at Newton Hamilton station, near where he resided. Matthews' body was found by a laborer who thought the man had died of heart disease but an investigation showed the watchman had been struck by a train, though his body was not mutilated. His punch-clock and watch were still going and his lighted lantern was found beside his body. Matthews resided two miles east of Newton Hamilton and leaves a wife and eight children. The body was taken to his home and the county authorities notified. Altoona Tribune, Altoona, Pa., Wednesday Morning, December 20, 1916
