JOSEPH A. MILLER.

Special to the Tribune.
  Lewistown, Nov. 16. - Joseph A. Miller, 83 years old, died today from 
diseases incident to old age.  Deceased was one of the four surviving 
members of the original "Logan Guards" who reside here.  This company 
was the first to answer President Lincoln's call for volunteers in 
defense of the national capitol, April 16, 1861, and are now known as 
the "First Defenders."  He was also first engineer of the Henderson 
volunteer fire company No. 1 when they purchased the Silsley Fire 
Company's exhibit at the centennial in 1876, which they still have in 
serve as a steamer.
