Pecht, 88, of Farm View Lane, Lewistown, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at her home surrounded by her loving family. Born Feb. 15, 1935, in Mattawana, she was a daughter of the late Herbert W. and Mary E. (Conner) Grassmyer. Her husband, Darl L. “Pete” Pecht, whom she married April 9, 1955, survives. Also surviving are: five children, Jeffrey A. Pecht and wife, Dana, of McVeytown, Debra J. Mianulli, of Virginia Beach, Virginia, Brian J. Pecht and companion, Michele Orwig, of Lewistown, Lisa A. Sunderland and companion, Paul Crater, of Mattawana, D. Brent Pecht and wife, Connie, of Lewistown; a brother, Gerald G. Grassmyer and wife, Betty, of Lewistown; 10 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and a longtime special member of her family, Monique Cartwright of Manhattan, New York. Preceding her in death were two brothers, C. Leon Grassmyer and Robert E. Grassmyer Sr. She was employed as a CNA at Ohesson Manor in Lewistown for many years, and early in life had worked at Bell Telephone. Velma was a member of the McVeytown Presbyterian Church where she sang in the choir. She also served on the Bratton Township Election Board for many years. An avid flower gardener, she also enjoyed taking cruises and annual family trips to Canada; and had fond memories of their vacation touring Italy. Velma was happiest when her children and grandchildren were by her side. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, April 10, 2023, at the McVeytown Presbyterian Church with Pastor Jeffrey Fisher officiating. A visitation will be held from 10 a.m. until the time of service Monday at the church. Memorial contributions may be made to the McVeytown Presbyterian Church, P.O. Box 323, McVeytown, PA 17051.
