Rhodes, aged 82 years, and an employee of the Logan Iron and Steel Company at Lewistown for 62 years, died at his home, 19 Walnut Street, Burnham, Saturday morning, October 28, 1944 at 7:50 o'clock. Last Christmas, he became ill with grip and he never fully recovered. During the last week he was bedfast. Born in Spruce Creek Valley, Huntingdon County, May 12, 1882, he was a son of the late David H. and Mary (Irvin) Rhodes. His wife, the former Mary E. Stewart, died March 17, 1935. Surviving are four sons and two daughters: Craig P. Rhodes, Sparrows Point, Maryland; Thomas S. Rhodes, Third Avenue, Burnham; Frank K. Rhodes,Dundalk, Maryland; Nathan Rhodes, Harrisburg; Miss Cleo Rhodes, at home; Mrs. Rush (Grace) Ingram, 130 Pannebaker Avenue, Lewistown, Pa. Seven grandchildren and one great-grandchild are living. Three brothers and three sisters survive: Samuel I. Rhodes, Yeagertown; John A. Rhodes and Elwood W. Rhodes, Burnham; Mrs. Maud Daubert, Burnham, Mrs. Margaret Knox, Altoona; Mrs. Bence (Bessie) Keatley, Altoona. After learning the blacksmith trade from his father in Spruce Creek Valley, Mr. Rhodes entered the employment of the Logan Iron and Steel Company in 1872, and arose from one position to another until he became yard foreman. For 40 years. he served as a school director of Burnham School Board, occupying the office of board president in that time until he of his own choice refused to be a director for reelection, failing health being given as his reason for retiring from the office. He was also chairman of Mifflin County Republican Committee a director of Burnham Y.M.C.A. and a member of Burnham Fire Company I. Friends may call at Fretz Funeral Home in Lewistown Monday, until services there Tuesday afternoon, 2 o'clock. Reverend Dennis Smith, Burnham Methodist Church and Reverend J.
