Shearer, 87, of East Waterford, passed away at 5:58 p.m. on Monday, May 1, 2023, at Locust Grove Retirement Village, Mifflin. Born on Dec. 30, 1935, in Tuscarora Twp., Juniata County, he was the son of the late Clair and Mary (Love) Shearer. On June 15, 1958, he married his surviving wife, Janet (Mummah) Shearer with whom he was blessed to share over 64 years of marriage before his passing. In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Mark Shearer and his wife, Marlene, of Dry Run; two granddaughters, Jessica Shearer and Kaitlyn Reese and her husband, Aaron; two great granddaughters, Hazel Reese and Willow Reese; one sister, Betty Ranck and her husband, Francis, of Thompsontown; and many generations of nieces and nephews who were close to him. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Lois Noss. Mr. Shearer was a 1954 graduate of Juniata Joint High School in Mifflintown and was a lifetime self-employed farmer who worked on his family farm his entire life. His memberships included the East Waterford Presbyterian Church, where he taught Sunday School and held many offices; the Blairs Mills Lions Club, where he was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award and held many offices; a member, in earlier years, of the Dorsitt Grange until its closure, then became a member of the Tuscarora Grange No. 774; the Pennsylvania State Grange; through the Grange, he was a board member of the Husbands Mutual Insurance Company; and sat on the Main Board of the Juniata Valley Bank. He was an avid hunter and made several trips out west with his family and enjoyed woodworking and making keepsakes through woodworking for his granddaughters. Harold was very close to his family with whom he shared many fond memories with. Funeral Services will be held on Monday, May 8, 2023, at 11 a.m. from the East Waterford Presbyterian Church, 54 Church St., East Waterford with the Rev. Joanne Tourma and Pastor Darwin Goshorn officiating. Interment will follow at East Waterford Cemetery.
