SMELKER Very suddenly at an early hour Monday morning, John M. Smelker, a prominent citizen of Newton Hamilton, died at his home there of neuralgia of the heart. Mr. Smelker, who was 47 years old, had apparently been in his usual health, eating a hearty supper Sunday evening and attending church in the best of spirits. On the way to church he complained of a neuralgic pain in one arm and after church it grew worse, home remedies being applied for some hours. Suddenly it reached his heart and the end came. Mr. Smelker had been for a number of years postmaster at Newton Hamilton. He was a faithful member of the Presbyterian church and highly esteemed. Surviving are his wife, a son and two daughters; also one brother, J. V. Smelker, of Bellwood and a sister, Miss Hattie, of Collingswood, N.J. Many relatives and friends in Altoona will mourn his death. The funeral service will be held at his late home at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon. Interment at Newton Hamilton.
