He was born on May 12, 1937, in Lewistown. He was the son of Frank A. and Jean F. (Hoffman) Usko. He married his high school sweetheart, Sharee L. (Wagner) Usko on March 25, 1956, with whom he was blessed to share 67 years of marriage. He is survived by: his children, Wendy Herst and husband, Mark, of Harrisburg; Tami Rook, of Reedsville; and Joni Novacich and husband, Kenneth, of Middleburg, VA. He also leaves behind four grandchildren, Eric Rook and wife, Katee, Kraig Herst and wife, Megan; Kevin Herst, and Jared Novacich; four great-grandchildren, Kara Rook, Evan Rook, Kaden Herst, and Landen Herst, as well as a brother, David Usko, of Lewisberry, York County. He was preceded in death by: a son-in-law, Steven Rook, a sister-in-law, Ardis Usko, and a brother-in-law, Kenneth Kephart. Wayne graduated from Armagh-Brown High School in 1956, where he excelled playing basketball, baseball, and track & field. He also played in the Twilight Baseball League for Milroy, the Milroy American Legion, the Mifflin County fast-pitch softball league, and the New Holland fast-pitch softball league. He retired in 1992 from Ford-New Holland in Belleville after 36 years of service. He was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church in Siglerville, where he sang in the church choir, in addition to being a Sunday school teacher, superintendent of the Sunday school, church sexton, financial secretary, and a council member. Wayne was a life member of the NRA and the Mifflin County Historical Society. He was also a member of the Civil War Trust, Central Virginia Battlefield Trust, Gettysburg Foundation, George Washington’s Mount Vernon, Coffee Run Fish Club, and the Milroy Fire Company. He was a volunteer for the Pennsylvania Clean Ways. He enjoyed fishing, especially for trout, watching and feeding the birds, woodworking, riding his bike around the neighborhood, golfing, and grilling at family picnics.
