He perished as one of the victims of the terrible storm-king, on July 4, 1874 by the falling of the Juniata Bridge. He was a native of Hesse, Germany and emigrated to America years ago with his family. He was on the bridge when the storm approached and was thrown down by the force of the wind and suffered a compound fracture of the leg. It was decided that amputation of his leg at this age was out of the question. He served in the Mexican War, was a good citizen and an honest man.
