(Stroudsburg, Pa.) 1840-1853: February 01, 1849 The decease of Dr. M. G. Grattan, who died, January 28th 1849, at his residence in Smithfield township, is much lamented by the community in which he dwelt. We are not in possession of the facts of his life, but as far as we can ascertain, he was about 30 years of age, graduated several years ago,with great credit to himself at a Medical Institution in the State of New York, and since that period practiced medicine in the neighborhood in which he died and near which he was born... For several years he had been a most worthy member of the Presbyterian church, and he departed this life in the prospect of a blissful immortality. He has left aged parents, a youthful widow, and two children of tender years to lament his loss. His funeral sermon was preached by his pastor, the Rev. Mr. Johnson...and the services at the grave, were conducted by the Chaplain and according to the form of the Order of Odd Fellows...
