(Stroudsburg, Pa.) 1853-1911: June 02, 1864 We learn with regret that John McDermott, a member of Co. F 4th Regt. P. R. V. C., was killed in the recent battles in Kanahwa Valley, Va. John enlisted in Capt. Keller's company at the outbreak of the rebellion, and served faithfully as a soldier of his country up to the hour of his death. He participated in nearly all the battles of the Peninsula, and in those of South Mountain, and at Antietam, Fredericksburg, Chancellorsville and Gettysburg, and won the reputation of a hero in each. He recently re-enlisted for three years, and in the first battle, under his new term, met his death while heroically fighting in the good fight for the Union. He resided in this place for a number of years, and by his many good qualities drew to him a number of warm friends, who will regret to hear of his death. He leaves a wife and three small children to mourn his loss.
