(Stroudsburg, Pa.) 1853-1911: October 16, 1873 In Barrett township, Monroe county, on the 20th ult., James Palmer, Esq., aged 79 years, 1 month and 13 days. The deceased was a native of Hampshire, England. At an early age he evinced a talent for landscape painting, and in the year 1837, emigrated to this country, to cultivate his talent in a wider sphere. In 1846 he came to Monroe county on a sketching tour, and liking the surroundings, purchased a tract of land, and commenced a pioneers life in this section, where he has resided for the remainder of his days. The deceased was a member of the I. O. of O. F. in England and served the people of Barrett township, as Justice of the Peace for two terms. He was a good citizen, and leaves behind him no known enemy.
