Partial copy, only. 1789 MORTGAGE; WILLIAM HESS TO JOHN GETTERD: This indenture made the 14th day of February in the year of our Lord 1789 between William HESS of Forks Township in the County of Northampton & State of Pennsylvania, Yeoman, and Catherine his wife of the one part, and John GETTERD of Williams Township in the County of Northampton aforesaid, Yeoman, of the other part. Whereas the said William HESS in and by a certain obligation or writing obligatory under his hand and seal bearing even date with these presents doth stand bound unto the same John GETTERD, his Heirs, Executors, Administrators & Assigns in the sum of Five Hundred and Seven Pounds lawful money of Pennsylvania in gold or silver, conditioned for the payment of Two Hundred & Fifty-Three pounds and Ten Shillings lawful money aforesaid on the 27th day of May next ensuing the here of as in and by the said recitels, obligations & conditions . . . John GETTERD also paid at the sealing and delivering of these presents (the receipts of which 5 Shillings is hereby acknowledged). Have granted, bargained, sold, released, and confirmed onto the said John GETTERD his heirs and assigns all that messuages or tenement and two tracts or peices [sic] of lands situate in Forks Twp. Aforesaid. Bounded and described as follows - - viz. - - one of the said tracts begins at a post stand on the West branch of the Delaware River, commonly called Lehigh. From thence, extending by land of Jacob PEYFOR 71 degrees west . . . dated as above. [William HESS signed his name; Catherine HESS made her mark.].
