HENRY S. BETTS, a successful and artistic photographer of Shamokin, Northumberland County, Pa., was born July 2, 1862, in Merthyr Tydvil, South Wales. He is a son of Alfred and Zilpah (Carr) Betts. Our subject was educated in England. He followed in the footsteps of his father, with whom he learned the fathers trade, photography. He also pursued his chosen vocation in several London photographic houses, after which he engaged in business in his native country. Coming to the United States in October, 1887, Mr. Betts engaged in his business in Mount Carmel, Northumberland County, where he prospered and remained until April, 1898, when he removed to Shamokin, his present home. Our subject, being of artistic temperament and having had valuable experience abroad, holds high rank as a photographer and is well known because of the excellence of his photographic work of all classes. Mr. Betts was happily married to Margaret Chambers of England. Their happiness has been crowned by the issue of four lovable children, Frank, Zilpah, Arthur and Ada.
