Mar 22, 1874 Alexander Grant from Scotland, resided in Aberdeen. Elected first constable of Augusta Township, Northumberland Co, Pa in 1772. d. Mar 21, 1775. Alexander's wife was born Oct 31, 1718, and died Nov 25, 1821, she was 103 yrs. Alexander had two sons: 1. George Grant b. Aug 16, 1755 d. Oct 10, 1779, on North River above New Windsor. George was commissioned 3rd Lieutenant of Captain Weitzel's Company on March 19, 1776 and promoted to Captain in the 9th Regiment on May 3, 1777 2. Thomas Grant b. Nov 20, 1758 d. Jun 16, 1815. Thomas served as a Sheriff in Northumberland Co from 1785 to1788 (one term). Thomas Grant was a Lieutenant and a Captain in the local Militia. He was an active promoter of the Centre Turnpike and during its construction disbursed the funds in payment for work, makeing frequent trips to different points on the route with the money in his saddlebags. Thomas Grant married Deborah Martin of Northumberland Co, Pa. Samuel Hunter b. 1732 in North Ireland. He entered the military in 1760 and was commissioned Lieutenant on May 2, 1760, in Captain Joseph Scott's company of Colonel Hugh Mercer's battalion of the Pennsylvania Regiment. On Nov 10, 1763 he was commissioned Captain in Colonel Turbutt Francis' battallion. Samuel was at Fort Augusta in Jun of 1763 when the first intelligence of Pontiac's conspiracy was received. Samuel initiated the measures for the defense of the post carried into execution by Colonel Burd. In 1764 Samuel joined Colonel Bouquet's expedition, at Fort Augustain. Samuel was commissioned Justice of Northumberland Co on Mar 24, 1772. From 1772-75 he was elected to the assembly. In 1775-76 he was on the Committe of Safety. In 1783 he was on the Council of Censorsin. On Feb 8, 1776, he was Colonel of the first battalion when the revolution started. In 1777 he was county Lieutenent and served again on Apr 6, 1780, he was responsible for the movements of the local militia. His correspondence during this period are a part of the Northumberland County history. Samuel Hunter died at Fort Augusta on Apr 10, 1784. Samuel married Susanna Scott. Samuel and Susanna had two daughters: 1. Nancy Hunter who married Alexander Hunter 2. Mary Hunter who married Samuel Scott Grant and Hunter graves are one street back from the River and behind the site of Fort Augusta.
