7/5/1900 Harrisburg, PA Prof. J. E. Bahner East Northfield, Mass. Marquand Hall Dear friend, Your letter reached me this morning after having looked for me in Dauphin. You said "This is a delightful place to be," and from your letter I believe it is more than delightful. Surely by such meetings, such speakers, and such subjects you cannot, you dare not keep from being greatly helped and blessed. I am glad Myerstown is not the only place where we learn the great need of concecrated Christians. I have learned the true meaning of "concecrated life" there, but if we only want to, we can learn it wherever we are. I am sure the sermon on "The Inner Circle" must have been inspiring. I heard Rev. Hartsler preach from the same subject and his sermon helped me wonderfully. I have been trying to recall some parts of it, and it has almost made one homesick for Myerstown church. I wish I could have heard this address by Mr. Speer, and all the others, too. I suppose I will have a great desire to go to Northfield next year. I do not wonder that Mr. Ronemus says, "It is like heaven" after reading your letter. Has he had a shout since you are there? I have had one great pleasure and blessing since I am home. It was my privilege to lead the League service the first Sunday after my arrival (you are not here to question that statement) and we had a very good meeting. I did as commanded. "Open your mouth and it shall be filled" and I said some things that surprised me afterword. I felt they needed it and as I was prompted by an inner voice I said it. They said they enjoyed the meeting and I am sure I did. Last Sunday I had a class of boys who acted as tho they go because they must, but before long I won them and had them interested in the lesson. Miss Zartman and her cousin stopped off on their way home and remained for the late train. In this way she could give me all the commencement news. She thinks I ought to be sorry I was not there for she enjoyed herself so much. I had a letter from Miss Tressler on Tuesday. She says not a day passes but that she thinks of the times at Albright, especially the fun in my room with the tube. I do not believe you know the joke on Miss Tressler concerning he tube. Do you. I have been spending the week with my sister. I expect to go home Sat. evening, and will be at the station Wednesday for the Reading train. I leavs [sic] Harrisburg at 2.57 P.M. You will stay for the late train. By leaving on the other you would not have time to answer all our questions concerning Northfield. The last train leaves Dauphin at 7.27 instead of 8.10 as I told you. Trusting that the last of the convention will be better than the first and that you will bring the very best along to tell us. I remain Yours respectfully, Mary R. Lyter
