From the "News Dispatch", Sept. 18, 1933 DEATH CLAIMS WIDELY KNOWN SHAMOKIN MAN Samuel Reed Dies at Home After Illness of Year Samuel Reed, widely known resident of Shamokin died at his home, 826 North Second Street, at 8:10 this morning of a complication of diseases following an illness of a year's duration. Mr. Reed had been seriously ill since early summer when he was seized with a paralytic stroke. During the ensuing months his heath failed to improve and he lost strength steadily until death intervened this morning. He was born in Gowen City, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Moses Reed. When he was a child the family moved to Shamokin where Mr. Reed spent the remainder of his life. For more than forty years he had been employed at the Cameron colliery and worked steadily until the time of his illness. He married Amelia Ohrendorf fifty years ago and last July they celebrated their fiftieth wedding anniversary. Surviving are his wife and the following children: Charles, Mrs. George Jones, Mrs. Leslie Batdorf and Mrs. Marlin Bixler, of Shamokin; Harry and Oliver, of Norristown; Mrs. Charles Hartsberg of Florida; and John, of Danville. Nine grandchildren and one great grandson also survive. The funeral will be announced later.
