DEATH OF W.C. SAVIDGE The deed probably committed during a temporary aberration A terrible shock to relatives and friends in Pottstown. A dispatch received in Pottstown March 6, contained the startling announcement of the death of William C SAVIDGE, and stated that he had been found lifeless, in bed, at the Grand Pacific Hotel in Chicago. The deceased, son of ex- Postmaster William SAVIDGE, had been residing with his wife at 1175 Lovejoy street, Buffalo, NY, and had occupied the position of secretary to James CUNNINGHAM, his brother-in-law, who is road master of the Buffalo Division of the Pennsylvania and Reading Railroad. He went to Chicago to accept a position with A.D. Telephone Company, with which he had been previously connected. He was to have assumed his duties on Monday morning, but not doing so, the superintendent telephoned to the Grand Pacific, when he was found in room 236 with a pistol by his side and a bullet hole over his heart. William C SAVIDGE was born in Pottstown, grew up here and was a bright and amiable young man, of good habits in every respect. For several years he was clerk and telegraph operator for Coxe Bros. & Co., coal miners and shippers in Drifton, PA where he married as estimable young lady. Subsequently he withdrew from his position at Drifton, came to Pottstown, took charge of the P. and R. Telegraph office in the Security Building, but soon after was appointed a clerk by the Pottstown Iron Company. He remained here a few months, then went to Chicago, later to Buffalo, and had now again accepted a position at Chicago. The sad death of Mr. SAVIDGE, as above stated, can only be accounted for by the theory of temporary mental aberration, but full particulars have not been received in Pottstown. The parents and family of the unfortunate man are greatly distressed over the sad event, and to a numerous circle of relatives and friends, the intelligence is a most painful shock. The young man has a brother, S. Montgomery SAVIDGE, and there are two sisters, all residing at this place. The deceased was 30 years old; his wife is in Buffalo, NY, and they have no children. The remains will be brought to Pottstown for interment. This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/pafiles/ File size: 2.8 Kb
