William McElwain), to have been injured in the same accident with John Schwenker, in the Locust Spring Colliery on 27 April. It must be supposed that his report was partly confused with the report regarding Martin Savel. ** Left blank GENERAL NOTES: The notation "do." is clearly "ditto," and two periods ("..") were used to denote matter that was not reported. The entries after December 20 are obviously out of chronological order and may be late reports. Every effort has been made to accurately represent the original table. Generally, only some punctuation and text direction have been changed. Apparent misspellings have not been altered. Spelling-particularly of last names-is very poor. The spelling of last names is often loosely phonetic. The spelling of the name of the "Luke Fidler" Colliery varies, but it appears "Fidler" rather than "Fiddler" is correct. This table lies on pages 236 & 237 of the reports. The page divides below the entry regarding Martin Savel. Special thanks to Mary Ann Ingream and the other folks are the Pennsylvania DEP's Bureau of Mining and Reclamation for providing photocopies of the annual report mortality table. (Note that these annual reports appear to be available from the Pennsylvania State University Library, and are best acquired from there.) Excerpts from her accompanying letter: "March 21, 2001 As requested I am enclosing a photocopy of the fatalities for the year 1893. This was taken from the Reports of the Inspectors of Coal Mines of Pennsylvania 1893. . . . Unfortunately in [some] instances, no personal information was included. . . . For information, from year to year the districts can change because more districts were added over time. Also the information given in each district can be slightly different because it was written by different inspectors. . . .
