Peter Conrad Sr's Will, 1837 In the name of God, Amen. I Peter Conrad Sr of Augusta township, Northumberland County, being weak in body, but of sound and disposing mind, memory, and understanding, for which I thank God, do make and publish this , my last will and testament. 1. I order and direct that my executors hereinafter named, pay off and discharge all my just debts and funeral expenses, and obtain a marble head and foot stone for my grave, with a suitable inscription thereon, as soon as convenient after my decease. 2. To my wife Magdalena, I give and bequeath, one good bed, bedstead, and bedding, one cow, one tin plate, stove and pipe, one table (my best one), six windsor chairs, and as much of my kitchen furniture as she may want, for her won use. 3. To my son Daniel Conrad, I give and devise the place on which I live in Augusta township, in the county aforesaid, containing in the whole, one hundred and fifty acres, more or less, (excepting as hereinafter mentioned), to hold to the said Daniel Conrad, his heirs and assigns forever. It is my will and I order and direct that my said son Daniel, pay to my said wife yearly and every year during her natural life, the sum of fifty dollars,, that he also permit my said wife to occupy as much room in the mansion house as she may need during her natural life, and that he keep her cow in feed and pasture, and have her grain to mill, and bring the flour back, and cut, haul, and provide her sufficient fire wood during the term of her natural life. 4. To Mary Barger, I give and bequeath, one bed, bedstead, and bedding, one cow, one bureau, and one spinning wheel at her arrival at the age of eighteen years, to be given her by my son Daniel. 5. To my son John Conrad, I give and devise the farm on which he lives in Augusta township, containing sixty acres, more or less, to hold to him during the term of his natural life, and after his death to his children in fee simple. 6. To my son Henry Conrad, I give and devise, one hundred acres of land, more or less, in Augusta township, being the same one which he now lives, to hold to him, his heirs and assigns, forever. The said land adjoins Paul Reeser, Daniel Zimmerman, and others. 7. To my son Jacob Conrad, I give and devise, fifty acres of land, more or less in Augusta township, adjoining the one hundred acres above mentioned. To hold to him, his heirs and assigns, forever. The said 50 acres are to be run off, on the north side of the place (the whole tract contains 150 acres more or less) adjoining lands of George Hall and, Christian Shipman. The 100 acres above devised to my son Henry Conrad, are to be run off first, so as to form as nearly as may be a square piece, and the balance of 50 acres, strict measure, is the part devised to my said son Jacob Conrad in fee. 8. To my son George Conrad, I give and devise sixty acres of land in Augusta township, adjoining the sixty acres of land devised to my son John Conrad, Maclayís land and others, to hold to him, his heirs and assigns, forever, upon condition however, that the said George after my decease become a perfectly sober man, and abstain from the use of all intoxicating liquors, of which my executors hereinafter named are to judge. And provided the said George do not become a sober man, and abstain from the use of liquors as aforesaid, then and in that case, it is my will that the said tracts of land descend to the wife and children of said George in equal shares in fee simple. 9. To my son Christian, I give and devise part of the farm on which I now live, being that part of said land lying in a straight line with the lane? between George Savidge and me and south of the Sunbury Road, adjoining lands of Valentine Hahnabach and Joseph Gass and others. The said piece, it is supposed will contain about fifty acres, with the usual allowances. To hold to the said Christian, his heirs and assigns, forever. 10. To my son David Conrad, I give and bequeath the sum of one hundred dollars, to be paid him by my executors, within one year after my decease. 11.
