I John Hoge of the township of Torbut County of Northumberland and State of Pennsylvania being weak in Body, but of sound mind and memory, being convinced of the uncertainty of life and the certainty of Death and also of a future State of existance beyond the grave, so commit my Soul into the hands of God, who gave it, and my Body to the dust to be buried in a decent and Christian manner by my Executors, in full but humble hope of obtaining through my Lord Jesus Christ a Glorious resurrection from the grave, and as to such worldly goods as it hath pleased God to bless me with, I order and it is my Will that they be disposed of in manner following- Imprimis, It is my Will that my lawful debts and funeral expenses be paid by my Executors out of my personal estate, if sufficient, if not out of the sum total thereof. Secundo, I bequeath to my beloved wife, Rosanna Hoge her dower in all my lands, a horse and saddle, a cow, a bed and a table, to her, her heirs Executors Administrators and assigns forever— Tertio, I bequeath to my beloved son Samuel Hoge all that part of my Father's Land, which falls to me by his Will and which was devised by him to my Brother Benjamin deceased, to him, his heirs Executors, Administrators and assigns forever— Quarto, I bequeath to my beloved sons Ebenezer, David and Jonathan D. Hoge all that Tract of Land upon which I reside to be divided in the following manner: The said Ebenezer to have a third part of said Tract upon the East, and the said David to have a third part of said Tract upon the side thereof next John Watson's Land, from the (word left out?) of Ebenezer's land and down to the river, And the said Jonathan D. Hoge to have a third part of said Tract from Ebenezer's line down to the River to be so struck of as to include the house in which I dwell and Barn adjoining, to them their heirs, Executors, Administrators and assigns forever— Quinto, I bequeath to my beloved Grand Daughter Nancy Lemmon twenty five pounds to be paid her when she arrives at the age of twenty one, to her, her heirs, Executors, Administrators and assigns forever— Sexto, It is my Will that in case any things remain of my personal property after my lawful debts and funeral expences and the twenty five pounds devised to Nancy Lemmon are paid, it shall be equally divided amongst my Daughters Elizabeth Brice, & the heirs of my Daughter Mary Redick deceased, My Daughter Priscilla Bennett and my son Jonathan D. Hoge, the heirs of my said Daughter Mary Reddick only to have one share of the same, to them, their heirs, Executors, Administrators and assigns forever. And I do constitute, ordain and appoint my beloved wife Rosanna Hoge, my trusty friends Robert Giffen & Robert Miller and my beloved Son David Hoge Executors of this my last Will and Testament.— And I do constitute, ordain and appoint this to be my last Will and Testament, I do hereby revoke all other Wills and Testaments by me at any time formerly made ratifying and confirming this alone to be my last Will and Testament. In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my name & seal this 9th Day of December 1805--John Hoge (Seal) In presence of John Bryson, John Kirkwood, John Shnyder- WILL OF THE REVEREND JOHN HOGE 2 Be it remembered that it is my Will that my Wife Rosanna Hoge shall have the exclusive use of my Mansion House during natural life, the chest of Drawers she brought with her and Bed clothes to furnish the Bed devised to her in my Will besides what is therein devised to her. In testimony thereof I have herewith set my hand and seal this 4th day of February 1807. John Hoge (Seal) in presence of John Bryson, Robert Miller Be it remembered that it is my Will that my Sons Ebenezer, Samuel, David and Jonathan D. Hoge shall each pay the sum of ten pounds to my Daughter Priscilla Bennett, her heirs or assigns three years after my decease, and if any of them should sell the lands devised to them previous thereto, those who sell shall give her security for the payment of said Money, also it is my Will that my son David Hoge shall have the horse I have already given him besides what is already devised to him, In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 4th day of February 1807. John Boyd, Esq., Dear Sir: It appears from the last Will and Testament of the Rev'd John Hoge that he has mentioned my name as one of the Executors to his Estate without at all consulting on the occasion. I have not enjoyed a good State of health for some time past, this with my own affairs, which demand daily attention obliges me to decline all tho'ts of serving as an Executor to said Estate. I am D'r Sir respectfully yours-Robert Giffen Northumberland County as Be it remembered that on the twenty sixth Day of February 1807 before me Robert Gray Deputy Register for the Court aforesaid personally appeared the Rev'd John Bryson, John Shnyder & Robert Miller, the three Subscribing Witnesses the two first to the forgoing Will and the first and third to the annexed Codicils, who being duly sworn as the law directs doth depose and say, they were personally present and did see John Hoge the Testator Sign Seal and declare the foregoing Will and the two annexed codicils as and for his last Will and Testament that at the time of his so publishing the same he was of sound and disposing mind and memory as deponants does believe according to the best of their knowledge and that the Names John Bryson & John Snyder as Witnesses to the Will are of their own proper hand writing & the Names John Bryson & Robert Miller as witnesses to the two anexed codocils are likewise of their own proper hand writing and further said not--John Bryson, John Snyder- Sworn & Subscribed the day & year aforesaid before-- Be it remembered that on the 26th day of February A. D. 1807 Before me Robert Gray Depy Register for the County of Northum'd was proved and approved the last Will and Testament and the Codicils thereunto anexed of the Rev'd John Hoge deceased and Letters Testamentary Issued in due and common form of law.
