We encourage links to the state and county table of contents. ____________________________________________________________ Last Will and Testament of George Hornberger -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In the name of God I the subscriber George Hornberger in Little Mahanoy Township, Northumberland Count in the state of Pennsylvania altho old and in bad health yet thank God have my senses memory and discernment as well as in the days of my health for which I heartily thank God, and just thinking that we must depart this life and that the time of our departure was uncertain and that we should at all times be prepared to leave this world, so I determined to make this my last will and testament as follows, to wit: First I commend my immortal soul into the hands of my God, to his eternal mercy and my body to the earth which my hereafter named executors shall in a orderly and Christian like manner have. And as regards my worldly possions which is a farm in Little Mahanoy in above said County and in different moveable personal property which I bequeath in the following manner to my four sons, Daniel a bay mare, Samuel a bay mare, David a sorrel horse, and Bryan a bay mare. It is my will that my land shall be rented out for the halves and unto my beloved wife Mary I bequeath the one half of the sum for her maintainance, and whatever she has no need for shall be applied in defraying my debts. Further she shall have properties and sufficient room in the house so long as she my beloved wife shall live, she shall have one cow which she my choose and two sheep and pasture, and feed sufficient of said cow and sheep. One fourth part of the garden in such a place as she pleases, and ten pounds of flax and as much tea, and fifty pounds of beef. Likewise the same quantity of pork, apples, one barrel of good cider and the stove in the room. Finally I appoint my two sons Daniel and David as executors of this my last will and testament. I declare again this instrument of writing consisting of one sheet of paper which I have undersigned myself to be my last will and testament and recall all other wills and testaments heretofore made by me and have in confirmation subscribe the same with my own hand and annexed the seal, done in Little Mahanoy Township on the 25th day of Feb. A.D. 1826. Packer Esq. register of the the said County personally appeared Bastian Zimmerman & John Derr the subscribing witnesses to the written will who being duly sworn according to law say they were personally present & did see George Hornberger the testator sign seal & declare the within writing to be his last will & testament that at the time of his so publishing the will was of sound & disposing memory & understanding & that the names Bastian Zimmerman & John Derr wrote as witnesses at the same time are of their respective hand writings. John Derr Bastian Zimmerman Sworn subscribed the day and year aforesaid Sam'l P Packer Regs. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Recorded 17th April 1827 Be it remembered that on the 17th of April A.D. 1827 before me Sam'l J Packer, Reg. was proved and approved the last will & testament of George Hornberger of Little Mahanoy Township deceased of which the forgoing is a true copy. Executors refused to take the oath also to act according to their appointment. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Exit Citation to Executors to accept or refuse their appointment aforesaid dated May 24th 1828. June 2nd 1828 - Renunciation of Executors filed. - and that the Letters of Administration with the will annexed were granted to Dr. Robert Philips of all singular the goods and chattles rights credits of George Hornberger dec'd. Be it remembered that on the 2nd day of June 1828 Letters of Administration in due & common form of law were granted to Dr. Robert Philips administrator with the will annexed upon the estate of George Hornberger late of Little Mahanoy Township, dec'd who hath entered into bond with Wm Shipeman Jr. in the sum of one hundred dollars.
