We encourage links to the state and county table of contents. ____________________________________________________________ Northumberland County Willbook 3(1827-1845) p. 466 Feb 1844, April 1844 Samuel Lesher's Will In the name of God Amen, I Samuel Lesher of the township of Jackson in the County of Northumberland in the State of Pennsylvania, Farmer, Being very sick and weak in body but of sound mind and memory and understanding, blessed be God for the same but considering the uncertainty of this transitory life do make and publish this my last will and testament in manner and form following to wit, Principally and first of all I commend my immortal soul into the hands of God who gave it and my body to the earth to be buried in a decent and Christian like manner at the discretion of my Executors hereinafter named and as to such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life I give and Dispose of the same in the following manner to wit, viz. Item First I Give and bequeath unto my dear wife Magdalena three beds the choise of the Beds in the house with the bedsteads, two cows the choise out of the flock of my cattle, two sheep, one ten ten plate stove with pipe together with such of my household furniture and kitchen utensils as she may chose to keep for her use, and the clock in the house and the carpeds now in the house and three hogs, and three hundred dollars of money out of my personal to be given to her after my decease by my Executors hereinafter named, I do order and direct that my Executors hereinafter named or the survivor of them shall sell all my property except such propertys otherwise ordered and bequeathed, and all my Real property to wit my Plantation whereon I now live containing two hundred and thirty six acres being the same more of less situate in Jackson Township, Northumberland County adjoining lands of Isaac Wentzel, Valentine Engel, Daniel Schwart, George Shaeffer and others, and also that certain tract of Land whereon my son John Lesher now lives in the township and county aforesaid, containing sixty eight acres being the same more or less adjoining Land of Benjamin Leitzel, Abraham Troutman, Ferdinand Moser and others, and I order that all the before mentioned Land shall not be sold before the first day of April 1846 as I have rented the Plantation whereon I now live to my son Jacob and said lease doth not expire until the first day of April 1846 and it is my will that my Executors may sell my land after my decease aforesaid in lots or each whole tract as the[y] see it most profitable to such person or persons and such prise or prises as may reasonable be gotten for the same and out of the money which my real property shall be sold for, one thousand five hundred Dollars shall not be paid to my Executors as long as my widow or wife Magdalena shall live or remain my widow but shall be a dower on the tract of land abovementioned of two hundred and thirty six acres as long as my wife Magdalena shall live or remain my widow shall draw the interest from the aforesaid fifteen hundred dollars as long as she shall live or remain my widow, and after her death or marriage which shall happen first said fifteen hundred dollars shall be paid to my heirs or executors and further shall my widow have possession of the house were we now live in, and the hog house next the house and the part of the garden the upper part next the house and shall have briviledge at the well of water and to tak water at any time she shall need of, and room in the stable for her cattle and sufficient feed in the winter and pastur in the remainder time of the year as long as she shall live on the place, and the widow shall have brivilidge to cut her firewood on said land as much as she shall want for her use, and the tenant or owner of said land shall howl said wood to her house yearly and every year, and two barrels of cider and appels to boil, apples for use in the house during the sommer and to try one bushel of tried [or aged?] apples and one bushel of winter apples, and as to such money as may be in the hands of my Executor out of the real and personal property after the same is sold and the money is collected my son Samuel Lesher shall have twenty dollars and my son George Lesher shall have twenty dollars, and my daughter heniatta shall have a hundred and fifty dollars, and my son Daniel shall have one hundred and fifty dollars and my daughter Mary shall have one hundred dollars and my son Isaac shall have one hundred dollars and my son Ely shall have one hundred dollars, and my daughter Elizabeth shall have one hundred dollars and my son Jonathan shall have one hundred dollars, as the above bequeathed doth make all my children even with what I have given them heretofore and in case there is any money left after my decease of my real or personal property my son John Lesher shall have his share in manner following my executors shall keep his share in their hands and shall give him the interest thereof yearly or so much of the prisible as he shall have need of during his lifetime and if any is left after his decease shall be paid to his children, and my son Samuel shall have his share, and my son George shall have his share, and my son Henry shall have his share, and my son Jacob shall have his share and my daughter Henrietta intermarried to John Troutman shall have her share, and my son Daniel shall have his share, and my daughter Mary shall have her share, and one cow and bed and bedstead, and my my son Isaac shall have his share, and my son Ely shall have his share and my daughter Elizabeth shall have her share, and my son Jonathan shall have his share. Each of my children to have his share share and share alike except as above ordered, and as to my Grandson Simon Troutman the only heir of my deceased daughter Sarah I give and bequeath two hundred dollars for his full share out of my estate which my executors shall pay to him if he shall live til he arivefs to the age of twenty one years, but if he should die before he arivefs at the age of twenty one years his share shall be divided among my other children or in their heirs in equal shares, and I do further order that in case I shall die before the first day of April 1846 my executors shall give my wife Magdalena so much of the shares commin to me by the article of agreement between me and my tenant as she shall have need of to support her and family and the overblosh[?] the[y] shall assess for the house, and it my will that in case my executors can after my Decease provide a house and lot for my widow to her satisfaction for her to live on, then she is then to release the Reserves on my plantation as above stated except the interest of the one thousand five hundred Dollars which she shall be intitled to as long as she shall live and remain my widow, and after her death or marriage the aforesaid fifteen hundred dollars shall be paid to my executors and the[y] shall divide the fifteen hundred dollars among my children as equal shares and I do hereby direct my Executors after my decease before the[y] go to sell my land to have it first surveyed so as the[y] can make a perfect title to the purchaser. I do hereby authorise and impower my said executor or the survivor of them to sign, seal execute and acknowledge all such Deed or Deeds of covenasices as may be requisite and necessary for the granting and assuring the same to the purchaser or purchasers thereof in fee simple. And lastly, I nominate constitute and appoint my son Jacob Lesher and my friend Michael Lenker of Lower Mahanoy township and county aforesaid to be the executors of this my Last will and testament. In Witness whereof I have hereunto subscribed my name the third day of February A.D. 1844. Samuel Lesher Signed, sealed, published, pronounced and decalred by the said testator as his last will and testament in the presents of us who in his presence and his request have subscribed as witnesses. George Giese Abraham Engle Northumberland County Be it remembered athat on the 4th day of April A.D. 1844 before me Edward Oyster, Register, in and for said couty, personally appeared George Geise and Abrahm Engle the subscribing witnesses to the within will who on their solemn oath declare that they were personally present and did see and hear Samuel Lesher, the testator sign, seal, publish and pronounce as and for his last will and testament, and at the time of so doing he was of sound mind.
