Condition and agreement of John H. Cowden Whereas I John H. Cowden hold the single Bill of William Forsyth, date of this date for one thousand dollars payable under this condition not expressed upon its face, Whereas in the years 1842 and 1843 I assigned and transferred to the said William certain property and other matters in Tioga and Lycoming Counties, Pennsylvania out of which he realized nothing but trouble to himself, and on account of which suits arose against him in Lycoming one at the suit of (?) Packer one at the suit of the West Branch Bank at Williamsport. Now if I the said John H. cowden shall have all those suits settled and the claims on which they were founded finally disposed of, so that the said William shall be entirely discharged from all further liability or danger of liability on account of the same or the costs of said suits and if I the said John H. Cowden shall agree and for value received I do hereby agree to keep the said William entirely clear harmless and indemnified from all liability, costs, charges and expenses, which shall or may at anytime hereafter arise, ensue or result from the aforesaid "assignment and transfer of property and other matters in Tioga and Lycoming Counties" then the said single bill is to be paid, otherwise it is not to be paid and further the said John H. Cowden shall not at any time claim anything from the said William on account of the property and other matters assigned to him.
