Declaration of John H. Cowden relative to Northumberland lots Whereas the homestead property of John H. cowden deceased late of the borough of Northumberland, consisting of lots of ground in said borough fronting upon Queen Street and bounded on the east by (blank) and on the west by (blank) and on the north by lot of (blank) was sold by the Sheriff of Northumberland County as the property of John H. cowden, the residuary devisee of the Testator in AD August 1842 to William Forsythe - and whereas it has been supposed and asserted by some persons that the property aforesaid was bought in at the said sale by the said William Forsyth for my use and benefit in pursuance of a private agreement between us now know all men by these presents that I the said John H. cowden do hereby declare that there never was any agreement between the said William Forsyth and myself before or at the time of the said Sheriff's sale that the said William should purchase the said property for me or for my use or benefit, but the said property having been struck off to him at a very low price, I at the time, and ever since have expected that he intended in consideration of the situation of my affairs and the confidential intercourse always existing between us to make some renumeration to me for the depreciated sale and I now also declare that voluntarily and of his own free will and sense of justice, he has fully, freely and entirely met my expectations and I have no claims upon him or up on his justice or generosity in relation to the said property.
