ACCOUNT BOOK OF JOSEPH K. TROUTMAN Interpreted and typed by Beatrice Leemhuis, October 1999 Joseph K. Trautman was born 14 May 1840 in Jordan Township, Northumberland County, Pa. He was the son of George T. Trautman and his wife, Jestina Clark (Klerck). He was baptized at David's Church in Hebe, Pa. He married Esther (aka Hester or Hetty) Harter, who was the daughter of Henry Harter and Salome Troutman. Joseph died 27 Dec 1906. Joseph was a farmer in Jordan Township, and this account book seems to be a record of his personal transactions with others in that area. It also contains a birth record of his children. The earliest date is June 12,1863 and the latest date is March 1892. The journal is difficult to read because of the old style handwriting, the spelling and the fact that, in some cases, the ink is faded. It is written in English, but there is a Pennsylvania Dutch paragraph in it. Words in parenthesis were added by me. Birth record (This appears to have been written at different times, probably as each child was born. The handwritting appears to be the same, but a different ink was used for some of the records.) ************************************************************************************************ Fameli index for Joseph and Ester Trautman Lorethia Frances Trautman is Born on the 8th day of November 1864 John Adam is Born on the 21st day of March 1867 William Voles (Wallace) is Born the 8th day of July 1868 Joseph Gordon is Born the 22 November 1874 Jane Sovilla is Born the 6 January 1877 _urvi (Irving or Harve) is Born the 12 September 1879 ; baptist (Baptized) the 26 October **********************************************************************************************8***** Some names in the account book are: Cornelius Trautman, Isaac Carl, William Trautman,Henry Troutman, Rudolph Dornheim, George Dibler, George T. Apparently Joseph Trautman is to deliver oats, potatoes, other grains, 2 barrels of cider for apple butter, a bushel of walnuts to Yohe. He is to keep fnces in good shape and is to spread the lime which Yohe will purchase. He is also supposed to deliver 500 bushels (That seems like a lot) of corn, ground. It doesn't mention what he is to receive in return. Perhaps he is renting farm land from Yohe.)
