Runk & Co., 1897, Volume II, Pages 1089-1090. ____________________________________________________________________ JOHN SOLOMON ZIMMERMAN, Falling Spring, Perry county, Pa., was born in Cumberland county, November 9, 1848. He is a son of William and Margaret (Bower) Zimmerman. His grandfather, John Zimmerman, was a farmer, and also kept a hotel for a number of years in Andersonburg, Perry co., Pa. His children are: Henry; Mary (Mrs. Henry Kell); George; Matilda, wife of Judge Joseph B. Garver, of Perry county; David, deceased; John, deceased; Margaret (Mrs. James Black), deceased; Eliza (Mrs. Ewing), deceased; and William. Mr. and Mrs. John Zimmerman are both dead. Mr. Zimmermanis maternal grandparents were of German ancestry. Solomon Bower was a farmer; he married Mary Fosselman. Their children are: Margaret, widow of William Zimmerman; John; Isabella (Mrs. F. Gray); Sara (Mrs. John Gray), mother of Sheriff Gray; Eliza (Mrs. William Skinner), Mr. Skinner was a major in our late war; Susan (Mrs. ------------- ); Solomon; and Mary (Mrs. William Bickley), died May 10, 1896. These children are all dead but Mrs. Zimmerman. Mr. and Mrs. Bower are both dead. William Zimmerman was a farmer, and a native of Perry county. He served the township as school director and supervisor. He married Margaret, daughter of Solomon Bower, of Perry county. Their children are: Lizzie (Mrs. A. F. Hohenshilt); B. F. G.; John; William H.; Reuben A.; Sarah A. (Mrs. Daniel Bosserman); Mary M. (Mrs. Stewart Lightner); and Dr. George L.., of Bloserville, Cumberland county; Madison F., died in 1881. Mr. Zimmerman was a member of the Lutheran church, in which he was for many years an elder. He died in 1887. Mrs. Zimmerman resides with her children, and is a Lutheran. John S. Zimmerman attended school until he reached the age of twenty-one, and remained with his father until he was twenty-five; then, in 1873, he began to farm for himself. For nine years he rented the Nelson farm above New Bloomfield, in Centre township. Since then he has lived on his farm in Spring township, which he has made one of the finest in the county. Mr. Zimmerman is a Republican; he has served as school director in Centre township, for three years, and in 1893 was elected to a three years' term of the same office in Spring township. John S. Zimmerman was married November 12, 1874, to Mattie, daughter of George Washington and Fannie (Rice) Hench. Their children are: Daisy A.; Robert M.; Sallie J.; William N.; Roy H.; Eulalia T.; Rebecca May; Della F.; Ruth Esther; and Jacob L.; died April 2, 1886, age one year, one month and one day. Mr. Zimmerman and his family are all members of the Lutheran church. Mr. Zimmerman is deacon, and has held this office for six years. He has been superintendent of the Sunday-school for five years. He is a good citizen and is much respected.
