These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by other organizations. _______________________________________________________________________ ONE HUNDRED AND SIXTY SECOND REGIMENT, SEVENTEENTH CAVALRY, PERRY COUNTY PENNSYLVANIA The one hundred and sixty second regiment, known as the Seventeenth Cavalry was recruited in 1862, and met in Harrisburg. On the 5 Jan 1863 at Stafford Court House they became part of the Second Brigade of the First Cavalry Division. The cavalry were very efficient at holding at thwarting the movements of the the enemy both at Rappahannock and Gettysburg. During the winter most remained at picket durt except for a detachment under General Kilpatrick that raided Richmond. In 1864 the Seventeenth were under General Sheridan and wintered near Winchester on picket duty. Mustered out with a farewell speech detailing their courage and steadfastness.
