These electronic pages may NOT be reproduced in any format for profit or presentation by other organizations. _______________________________________________________________________ CIVIL WAR, THE SECOND REGIMENT, PERRY COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA (3 Months Service) Company D, Second Regiment was recruited at New Bloomfield, Perry Co. Pa. commanded by Captain Henry D. Woodruff. The company was completed and mustered into service by 20 Apr 1861. It was organized at Camp Curtin on the 21st under Colonel Frederick S. Stumbaugh and left Harrisburg for Washington, but because of a railroad bridge being out at Cockeystown Md. they returned to York Pa. and remained there till 1 June. The regiment was ordered to Chambersburg, Pa. and assigned to duty in Colonel Wynkoop's (Second) brigade of the (Second) division commanded by Major-General William S. Keim. On 16th June they advanced to Martinsburg Va. and then to Bunker Hill Va. on the 15 July. On the 23 July they marched from Charlestown Va. to Harper's Ferry and then completed their journey to Harrisburg by railroad, where they were mustered out 26 Jul 1861. COMPANY D, PERRY COUNTY, PENNSYLVANIA This company took no part in any battle, their chief duty was to guard. Mustered in 21 April 1861 and mustered out 26 July 1861.
