Zeiders, a Private of Company I, 53 Regiment Pa Volunteers, was enrolled on the 19 day of Sept, 1861, at Perrysville, Pa. for 3 yrs; and is reported in M. I. Roll of Co. dated Nov 8/61, present; and so borne to June 30/63; July & Aug. ’63, absent, on detached service bringing Conscripts; Sept & Oct ’63, same; Nov & Dec ’63, name not borne.- Re-enlisted as a Vet. Vol. Feb. 13, 1864; Jan & Feby ’64, present: March & April ’64, same; May & June ’64, Absent wounded since May 12/64’ July & Aug ’64, Absent, Missing since May 12, 1864; Sept & Oct ’64, same, and so borne to April 30, 1865. Muster out Roll of Co. dated near Alexandria Va. June 30, 1865, reports him. Corp. present and mustered out on that date and at that place. Ciders Pension claim No. 319517. ON THIS 24” day of May, A. D. 1889, personally appeared before me, a Justice of the Peace in and for the aforesaid County, duly authorized to administer oaths Hiram Jackson aged 51 years, a resident of Siverpool Twp in the County of Perry and State of Pennsylvania whose postoffice address is Siverpool Perry County Penna. well known to me to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who, being duly sworn, declares each for himself, in relation to aforesaid case, as follows: I have known the above named soldier for 30 years and knew him to be stout and hearty before he enlisted into the U. S. Service during the war of the Rebelion and when he came home he was entirely broken down. I first saw him when he came home on furlough after his release from prison he was then a mere skeleton after his discharge he looked some better but his health was broken down. About three weeks after his discharge him I worked togather which we did for eight months and during that time he was constantly complaining about a pain in his side or chest near the heart. if he lifted a little he complained and said if he did not soon get better he would have to quit work entirely. I have seen him frequently since we worked togather and in speaking about himself he always said he still had that pain in his side or chest. I further declare that I have no interest in said case and am not concerned in its prosecution. Hiram Jackson State of Penna. D. 1889, personally appeared before me, a Justice of the Peace in and for the aforesaid County, duly authorized to administer oaths George Hockenbrough aged 59 years, a resident of Richfield in the County of Juniata and State of Pennsylvania whose postoffice address is Richfield Juniata County Pennsylvania well known to me to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who, being duly sworn, declares each for himself, in relation to aforesaid case, as follows: I am acquainted with the applicant about 22 years he having resided within one half mile from me. I am a farmer and the claimant has worked for me more or less about every Season and often I have known him to have to quit work and return home on account of disability from Piles and a Pain in his Chest. I know this from my own knowledge and observations. Mr Zeiders first worked for me in 1867 and has worked for me Every year more or Less Every year Since 1867 I have heard Mr Zeiders complain of Pain in his chest and Piles Every year Since I have Known him. D. 1889; personally appeared before me a Notary Public in and for the aforesaid County duly authorized to administer oaths, Capt. Henry S. Dimm aged 53 years, a resident of Oliver Township in the County of Perry and State of Pennsylvania well known to me to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who being duly sworn, declared in relation to aforesaid case as follows: That he was Capt Co I, 53 Pa Vols. And said soldier Wm. A. Zeiders was one of his original members of his Company when D Regiment organized. he went with him to Harrisburg Pa about Sept 1861, from his neighborhood, and knew him well before the war and up to time of Enlistment, from when he was a Small boy, And he was the picture of good health and a stout able bodied young fellow when he enlisted; up to the time that he was captured by the Rebels at Spottsylvania on the 12 May 1864, while making a charge; and I never saw him again until within a few days after his return from Rebel Prison, and he was then nothing but skin and bone, and broken down in health, and I know he got his disability in prison at Andersonville, ??, for the reason that he was sound and well when he was captured. he afterwards complained of Piles and pains in his breast. I was with him allmost daly from 1866 to 1870. he has been or might Say disabled Almost from the time he was discharged for he had a hard time of it while laying in Andersonvill prison. So he complained of haveing the piles as Soon as he came home, and Also, with pain in his chest, that he was not able to do any hard labor. he was allmost dead when he came out of Andersonvill prison. D. 1890, personally appeared before me, a Justice of the Peace in and for the aforesaid County, duly authorized to administer oaths William A Ziders aged 45 years, a resident of Knousetown in the County of Juniata and State of Pennsylvania well known to me to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who, being duly sworn, declares fro himself, in relation to aforesaid case, as follows: I contracted my disabilities in Andersonville prision Ga. Hence I cannot get my Regimental Surgeon’s affidavit. Receiving a furlough at Anapolis, Md. and started for home. On my arrival at Millerstown, Perry Co. Pa. I met my 2d Lieut. John Whitaker (now deceased, who took me to Dr. Stites (now deceased) for treatment. Dr. Stites gave one medicine that lasted me till I got home; being a sick soldier he charged me nothing, and deceased cannot get his affidavit. Upon my arrival at home I was treated by our family Physician Dr. A. A. Murray till April when I rejoined my Regt. in April 1865 & remained till June 1865 when I was mustered out of service & discharged. From April 1865 to June 1865 whilst in Co. I was excused from duty. On my arrival home I could not follow my occupation of Shoemaker on accout of my army disabilities, I took to learn the trade of Moulder. The occupation of Moulder being light I could follow by the use of Patent Medicines, but Manual Labor I am unable to perform. Affidavits on file to the effect. He further declares that he has interest in said case and is concerned in its prosecution being the applicant. Wm. A. D. 1921, personally appeared before me a justice of the peace in and for the aforesaid County, duly authorized to administer oaths Della Glotfelter aged 44 years, a resident of Monroe Township in the County of Juniata, and State of Pennsylvania whose Post-office address is Millerstown Perry County, RD #3 well known to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who, being duly sworn, declared in relation to aforesaid case as follows I have known the claimant all my life time and for the last two years he is living with me and he has become so helpless that he requires personal help for the last three months I have been carrying his meals to him in the room his eyesite being so poor that he cant see to walk and his breathing is so short that is impossible for him to move without help he cant dress or undress himself without aid. Imposible for him to go to Toilet on account of being so totery and short of breath and Eye sight if you want him before the Examining Board this he can not do I would ask you to send the Doctors to his place for Examination. I know that none of his family served in the Army, Navy or Marine Corps of the United States in the late world war. Dec 1 1864 and was honorably DISCHARGED July 8, 1865, having served ninety days or more, or was discharged for, or died in service of the United States of a disability incurred in the service in the line of duty, during the CIVIL WAR, and who DIED November 7, 1925, at Millerstown R D #3 That he also served in Co I 53 Reg. Pa. Vol Promoted Dec 1st 1864 a Corporal and that, except as herein stated, said soldier (or sailor) was not employed in the military or naval service of the United States; THAT SHE WAS MARRIED to said soldier (or sailor) November 16 A D, 1865, under the name of Margaret L. Deane, at Home of by John K Snyder Rev.; that she had not been previously married, that he had not been previously married; That neither she nor said soldier was ever married otherwise than as stated above. That she was NOT divorced from the soldier (or sailor) and that she has NOT remarried since his death; That the following are the ONLY children OF THE SOLDIER (or sailor) who are now living and are under sixteen years of age; None That she did not serve in the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard of the United States between April 6, 1917, and July 2, 1921, or at any time during said period. That no member of her family served in the Army, Navy, Marine Corps, or Coast Guard of the United States between April 6, 1917, and July 2, 1921, or at any time during said period. Ziders Died November 7 1925. They never was Divorced and lived together as Husband and wife and raised a large family and lived with him to his death, and the Claiment has not remarried; my Age is 74 years. Watts aged 81 years, a resident of Richfield Pa in the County of Juniata, and State of Pa whose Post-office address is Millerstown R F D # Pa well known to be reputable and entitled to credit, and who, being duly sworn, declared in relation to aforesaid case as follows: I have knowen William A Ziders and Claimat before he went in the Civil war and ever since we were living near neighbors during all this time this is why I know these facts. The Soldier and Claiment were Married in about a year when he came home from the Army and they lived together as man and wife and raised a large family and they living as such until the said soldiers death this was on November the 7” day 1925 the claimant has not remarried since his death.
