BAIR, 74, RR Newport Retired state employee NEWPORT-Oscar Kines Bair, 74, of Buffalo Township, Perry County, died at 9:03 a.m. Thursday, June 6, 1996, at the home of his daughter of Middletown, where he had lived since March. Mr. Bair had been in ill health since February. He was born May 14, 1922, Perry county, a son of the late George and Alma (Kines) Bair. He was married May 1, 1954, to the former Dorothy Barner, who died Nov. 19. A graduate of Newport High School, Mr. Bair was a World War II Army veteran who served in the South Pacific as a Spec. 4 and earned six Bronze Stars. A retired state employee, Mr. Bair was also a farmer. He was a longtime member of St. John (Barners) Lutheran Church, RR1 Liverpool; life member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 49, Newport, member of the Newport American Legion Post 177; the Pennsylvania Association of Retired State Employees; the AFSCME Chapter 13, retiree; the American Association of Retired Persons and he was a baseball fan and enjoyed gardening. Surviving are one daughter, * Kaye Linde of Middletown. One sister, Grace Bair, preceded him in death. The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday at St. John (Barners) Lutheran Church RR 1 Liverpool, by the Rev. Robert J. Wittlinger Jr. Burial will be in the church cemetery, where military honors will be conducted by the Newport American Legion Post 177. Visitors may call from 1 p.m. until the time of the service Sunday at the church. Contributions may be made to Professional Hospice Care, 3605 Vartan Way, P.O. Box 60635, Harrisburg, Pa. 17106-0635.
