BAKER SR., 82, RR1 Liverpool LIVERPOOL- Charles Franklin Baker Sr., 82, of RR1, Liverpool Township, Perry County, died at 12:45 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 6, 2001, in the Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, following an illness that had afflicted him since 1979. He was born Feb. 24, 1918, in Northumberland, a son of the late John L. and Dorothy (Machamer) Baker. On Oct. 4, 1944, he married the former Virginia Lyter who preceded him in death on Feb. 9, 2000. He was a 1936 graduate of Northumberland High School. Mr. Baker was inducted into the Army and served during World War II. Following his military service, he was employed by the Pennsylvania Railroad, Enola Yards. He then worked for Penn York corp., Harrisburg, until 1954. From then until his retirement in 1981, he owned and operated Baker's ARCO Service Station along Routes 11 and 15, Liverpool. Mr Baker was an avid reader and a great Eagles football fan. He was a strong supporter of and participator in the Liverpool American Legion where he was a 57-year member and a past treasurer. He was also a member of the Liverpool Ambulance League. Mr. Baker was of the Protestant faith. Surviving are one son and daughter-in-law, Charles P. Jr. and Kizzie A. Baker, of Frederick, Md.; one daughter and son-in-law, Penelope S. and Wilson J. Woolard of York; three grandsons, Charles F. Baker III., Robert P. Baker and christian C. Baker; two great-grandchildren, Carlea and Joshua Baker; one brother and sister-in-law, Marks and Doris Baker of Sunbury; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Gladys and Leonard Bostian of Northumberland and Florence Steese of Northumberland; nieces; nephews; great-nieces; and great-nephews. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Ellen Baker and Betty Thomas, and by two brothers, Robert Baker and Lester Baker. Friends and family may gather for the viewing from 7 to 9 p.m. today at the George P. Garman Funeral Home Inc., 606 N. Front St., Liverpool, after which the casket will be closed. The funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home by pastor James E. Lewis. Burial with full military honors accorded by the American Legion Post 364 Liverpool, will be in Barner's Cemetery, RR1 Liverpool.
