State police at Duncannon said James S. Sweigart, 31, Liverpool RD1, was pronounced dead at the scene by acting Perry County Coroner Michael Shalonis. Shalonis said death was caused by chest injuries. Police said the accident occurred at 3:45 when Sweigart's northbound auto crossed the highway and collided with a southbound tractor-trailor driven by Ernest O. Boyd, 44, Baltimore. Police said the car glanced off the rear tires of the tractor and then struck the rear trailer axle. Police said the impact ripped the axle from the trailer. Police said the 1968 model car, which was demolished, came to rest in the center of the roadway facing southwest and the rig came to rest on the west berm. The trucker was not injured and his rig sustained moderate damage, police said. The highway at the accident scene is three lanes with the center lane designated for turns. The section of the highway is straight and level. The accident occurred near the state police substation. Police said the accident did not cause traffic delays.
