Elias Harman, a much-respected citizen of Juniata township, died at his residence on Tuesday night, of heart disease. He was about 72 years old. Funeral from the late residence of the deceased this morning at 9:30 o'clock. Interment at Milford. The News; (Perry Co., Pa.); 11/08/1894 Death of Elias Harman. The subject of this sketch, whose death on Oct. 30th was mentioned in last week's NEWS, was born in Lost Creek Valley, Juniata county, Pa., on Sept. 8th, 1722. When he was only a few years old, the family removed to Bucks Valley, in this county, and some years later to a farm near the Rope Ferry. While living here he was married on November 19th, 1850 to Miss Rebecca Leas, whose paternal home was the same house in which Mr. Harman died. The young couple kept house and farmed in Pfoutz's Valley until 1855, when they bought Mrs. Harman's old home in Juniata township. Here they lived happily together for thirty years, when Mrs. Harman died August 6th, 1886. They had six children, who are all living. The are John H., of Thompsontown, Annie E., wife of Charles Deckard, Mary Martha, wife of Martin Lyons, Sarah Alice, widow of George Ehrhart, Emory L., and Rhetta V. Mr. Harman was a good man. For several years he has been an elder in St. Samuel's Lutheran church. He was much respected and beloved by all his neighbors. He will be much missed by the community in which he lived. Though in failing health for several years yet his end came unexpectedly. Surrounded by his children he bade them not to cry, for he was going to heaven. "Good-by to all" were his last words. His funeral on Nov. 1st was largely attended. A brief discourse was delivered by his pastor on the words of Proverbs 14:32--"The righteous hath hope in his death." He was laid to rest beside the bodies of his wife and her parents in the cemetery at Milford. This file has been created by a form at http://www.genrecords.org/pafiles/ File size: 2.1 Kb
