Mae Lyter, 92, of Millerstown RR2, died at 11:00 p.m. Saturday, August 23, 1997 at Perry Village Nursing Home, New Bloomfield, where she had resided since May 14, 1997. Born May 30, 1905 in Juniata County, she was the daughter of the late John L. and Daisy Irene [Zeiders] Gelnett. November 14, 1928 she married Roy Curtis Lyter, who preceded her in death December 31, 1960. Mrs. Lyter graduated in 1926 from Millerstown High School, furthered her education at Millersville State Teachers College and received her teaching certificate from Susquehanna University, Selinsgrove. For many years she taught school at Susquehanna Elementary School, Juniata County, and taught in the grammar schools in her area of Juniata County. A life member of St. James United Methodist Church, Millerstown RR2, she taught Sunday school and served as pianist when needed. She was also a member of the Millerstown Ambulance League and enjoyed reading. Surviving are five children: Ronald E. Lyter, Willow Street, PA; Gerald M. Lyter, Millerstown RR2; John W. Lyter, at home; Connie L. Byers, Millerstown RR1; and Sally A. Losch, China; one brother, Roy Gelnett, Millerstown; two sisters, Violet Light, Millerstown and Sara Hoover, Millerstown RR2; 11 grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Oscar Gelnett; one grandson, Randall Scott Lyter; and one granddaughter, Rosie Byers, in 1979. The funeral service will be conducted Thursday, August 28 at 2:00 p.m. at St. John [Barners] Lutheran Church, Liverpool RR1, with Rev. Peter H. Kuebler and Rev. Salvatore E. Buonocore presiding. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery. Friends will be received by the family Wednesday from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the George P. Garman Funeral Home, 606 North Front Street, Liverpool, and Thursday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the church.
