MOORE KILLED New Bloomfield Soldier Boy Gives Life for Country in France Lt. Edward L. Moore, a son of Dr. E. E. Moore, of New Bloomfield, and well known in this city, made the supreme sacrifice in France according to word reaching relatives in his home town and Altoona. The Perry county Democrat of January 8 published the following concerning the young officer's death: Word was received last Wednesday by Dr. E. E. Moore that his son, Lieut. Edward L. Moore had been killed in action on September 30th. Dr. and Mrs. Moore have feared this news for some time as they had not heard from their son for a long time and it was upon inquiry to the Adjutant General that the information was gotten. Lieutenant Moore was a member of the 39th infantry. Over two years ago he joined the regular army and saw service on the Mexican border. He later entered the officers' training camp at Camp Oglethorpe, Ga., where he was commissioned a second lieutenant. Last May he was sent to France. Lieutenant Moore was a graduate of the High school and of the Academy in this place. He also spent a year at West Point Military Academy. He was a member of the Presbyterian church and was the fourth one of the fourteen members in the service to lose his life for his country. Lieutenant Moore was very popular with the younger set in this place, being of a cheerful disposition. He was quite an athlete and for one season was catcher on the State College baseball team. Lieutenant Moore was 25 years of age. Altoona Tribune, Saturday, January 11, 1919, page 11
